Install Git/Mercurial onto CentOS 5 + cPanel Server

Saturday, 07 April 2012 01:22

For whatever reason, git and mercurial aren't available in the normal CentOS Repositories so when you need it on an older cPanel server it's painful..  I've had to do this once or twice so it's about time I wrote it down.

Follow these two easy steps to install Git or Mercurial onto CentOS 5:

  1. Install the Fedora EPEL 5 Repositry (x86):
    rpm -ivh http://dl.fedoraproject.org/pub/epel/5/i386/epel-release-5-4.noarch.rpm
or If you're using a 64-bit system install EPEL using:
    rpm -ivh http://dl.fedoraproject.org/pub/epel/5/x86_64/epel-release-5-4.noarch.rpm
  2. Install Git using YUM:
    yum --enablerepo=epel --disableexcludes=main install git -y
  3. or Install Mercurial/HG using YUM:
    yum --enablerepo=epel --disableexcludes=main install mercurial -y

Happy coding.
